Great War High Route: trails and naturein the footsteps of history

A 200 km itinerary linking the four military shrines of the Vicenza area

The Great War High Route is an imposing itinerary of about 200 kilometres linking the four military shrines of the province: Pasubio, Cimone, Asiago and Grappa. Crossing 24 municipalities, the trail runs through the mountains where historic battles were fought between the Italian and Austro-Hungarian armies. It can be walked over several days and stages, and is suitable for families and children, with many accessible points for people with disabilities when properly equipped and accompanied.

The route connects the four major shrines and reaches important attractions such as UNESCO sites, the Road of the 52 Tunnels on Mount Pasubio and the Trenches Trail. The paths offer an emotional experience in contact with high-altitude walkways. From the High Route, more than 200 kilometres of secondary trails lead to memorial sites and museums of the Great War Ecomuseum.

Where Architecture, History and Nature come together

It is possible to reach majestic Italian fortresses including Forts Corbin, Campolongo, Interrotto, Verena and Lisser, as well as Austro-Hungarian works on the nearby Vezzene Plateau, such as Fort Luserna and Spitz di Vezzena. The heart of the project remains the four military shrines, which preserve the remains of the fallen and stand as focal points of collective memory and freedom.

The itinerary includes museums and many war cemeteries along the route, supported by modern services for hikers, including refreshment points, e-bike charging areas and dedicated signage. This journey combines respect for memory with the enhancement of a unique and evocative mountain landscape.
