Brendola
Affectionately known as “The Gateway to the Berici” thanks to its strategic location, Brendola boasts roots that trace back to the ancient Paleoveneti civilization, with a name tied to its historic freshwater springs. The town’s diverse landscape—split between lush, wooded hills and fertile plains—once flourished in Roman times along the historic Via Postumia.
The crown jewel of its medieval past is the Rocca dei Vescovi (Bishops’ Fortress): erected between the 9th and 10th centuries as a stronghold for the Bishop of Vicenza, it passed through the hands of the Scaligers and the Venetian Republic (La Serenissima), which dramatically ordered its destruction in 1514 for military strategy. Today, Brendola beautifully honors this epic history alongside its pristine natural heritage.
